Aeolian or wind energy is the kinetic energy of the wind and can be used to produce electricity from wind turbines (aerogenerators), providing a completely clean energy production. In Portugal, there has been a growth of wind farms (aeolian parks) in recent years, especially in mountainous areas and in the Portuguese coast. In the region, the altitude factor has facilitated the implementation of wind farms, and in 2008, there were a total of six wind farms in the region.
