Photovoltaic solar energy is produced via the direct or indirect usage of sunlight, through panels of photovoltaic cells able to transform solar energy into electrical energy. Regarding the potential of photovoltaic use, the continental territory shows a clear North-South dichotomy. The southern regions, particularly those in the interior, and the exposed coasts to the south, benefit from a higher recovery potential. At a regional level, the potential is not particularly favourable, but still with economic viability, as shown by the photovoltaic central located in Freixo de Espada à Cinta.
