Accesses and road accident rate


The road accesses to the region in 2007 comprise the following main routes:

A25 motorway (Aveiro – Vilar Formoso, one of the main road connections with Spain), serving Almeida and Pinhel municipalities;

 IP2 and IP5 main highways, serving Mêda, Torre de Moncorvo, Trancoso and Vila Nova de Foz Côa municipalities.

As regards secondary routes, the region is criss-crossed by a large number of national roads, the most important being the EN 102 and EN 322.

A total of 287 accidents were recorded in the region in 2007. The municipality with the highest accident rate was Trancoso - 58 accidents. The municipalities of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and Freixo de Espada à Cinta were at the other end of the scale, with only 9 and 10 accidents, respectively.
