The region’s water resources are quite abundant. For perennial streams, the region has a well-defined drainage network, with main emphasis on the rivers Douro, Côa and Sabor. Fluvial navigability is limited to the DouroRiver and small areas near the mouth of rivers Côa and Sabor. There are many sources of thermal waters, three of which are being operated as thermal SPAS.
The region has a large number of reservoirs, from the construction of dams, whether to produce electricity or supply and irrigation, some of which may be used for other purposes, like areas of leisure and recreation.
