The decline in the gross area for the production of potato is plainly evident in recent decades. The municipality of Trancoso aside, which even recorded a small increase in production area in the 1980’s, all other municipalities registered a general decline. The region currently has only 500 ha under production of potato, equivalent to less than 0.2% of the region’s territory.
