Côa Valley Archaeological Park

The discovery, since 1994, of new rock art sites, in both margins of the last 17 kms. of the Côa and in some of its tributary waterlines but also in the Douro, dictated the need to delimitate an ample protection area that today corresponds to the Côa Valley Archaeological Park. Meanwhile, the depeening of archaeological research in the region, conducted by the ancient National Center for Rock Art and later by the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, revealed that the geographic and cenic space of the Côa long rupestrian cycles (between the Upper Paleolithic and the present) extended well beyond the demarcated area, although the main sites are located inside the Park.
